Contract Type: Permanent
Working Pattern: 35 hours per week, 5 days as standard including evenings. May be required to deliver on ad-hoc matchdays, which predominantly fall on a Saturday.
Closing Date: Friday 29th November 2024
Salary: £23,000 - £26,000 per annum
The Role
We are looking to recruit to the role of Football Development Officer to assist with the coordination, development and delivery of the Shadow Youth Team football education programme and football development initiatives at Turf Moor, Nelson & Colne College, Accrington and Rossendale College and in the wider community. The role will be based primarily at Accrington and Rossendale College and Turf Moor.
The FDO will, in liaison with the Football Development Manager and other key staff, be responsible for the day-to-day planning, delivering, and evaluating of coaching sessions and support all recruitment and strategy to develop the Burnley FC in the Community Shadow Youth Team, tier 1 & tier 2 Player Development Centre’s and other football/sport development projects such as football & holiday courses, activity camps and matchday coaching packages.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Planning, development and delivery of the Shadow Youth Team, Player Development Centre’s and other football development initiatives.
- To deliver both football coaching sessions and support classroom-based education workshops/units (BTEC course) as part of the Shadow Youth Team.
- Arrange guest speakers, trips and visits, work experience opportunities and value-added experiences.
- To explore growth opportunities for football provision related to the project area and take an active lead on arranging student/player recruitment events such as tournaments, school visits and trials.
- To liaise with the Football Development Manager and proactively promote/deliver the Football/Sports Development programmes and carry out all meaningful tasks, when so asked to do so.
- To undertake appropriate administrative duties in relation to the programme, to ensure the smooth running of the project e.g., maintain accurate attendance data via Salesforce, registers, organise fixtures and officials, transport and collect monies.
- To manage, develop and support the coaches and volunteers involved in coaching sessions.
- To work in partnership with BFCitC and Burnley Football Club departments on community initiatives as identified by the Football Development Manager, Director of Football, Sport & Education, CEO of BFCitC and Board of Trustees.
- To ensure that the health and safety issues are implemented in all areas of the programme.
- To assist the Football Development Manager with reports for management and steering groups. The reports are to include statistical and financial information.
- Supervise and co-ordinate a team of contracted and casual coaching staff delivering on the projects.
- To help monitor and evaluate the programme & have an input into the future design of programme delivery.
- Identify talented individuals involved in the projects and refer those individuals to appropriate destinations.
- To understand and implement the Charity’s Safeguarding policy, procedures, and best practice guidelines in your role. To use this understanding to ensure safe working practices, appropriate reporting of concerns and contribute positively to a safe environment.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- UEFA B Coaching Licence
- FA Emergency 1st Aid
- FA Safeguarding
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
- Experience of planning and delivering inclusive, high quality regular football coaching sessions to players of all ages and abilities.
- Experience of coordinating a range of community projects.
- Experience of working within a high pressured, results driven environment.
- Full clean driving license with access to own transport.
- Time management skills to be able to plan and regulate workload including the ability to prioritise demands and thrive under pressure.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
