Salary: £25,500 - £28,000 per annum
The Role
We are looking to recruit to the role of Football Development Officer to assist with the coordination, development, recruitment and delivery of the Shadow Youth Team football education programme and football development initiatives at Turf Moor, Nelson & Colne College, Accrington and Rossendale College and in the wider community. The role will be based primarily at Nelson & Colne College and Turf Moor.
The FDO will, in liaison with the Sport Development Manager and other key staff, be responsible for the day-to-day planning, delivering, and evaluating of coaching sessions and support all recruitment and strategy to develop the Burnley FC in the Community Shadow Youth Team, tier 1 & tier 2 Player Development Centre’s and other football/sport development projects such as football training camps, activity camps and matchday activations.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Planning, development and delivery of the Shadow Youth Team, Player Development Centre’s and other football/sport development initiatives.
- To deliver football coaching sessions and support classroom-based education workshops/units (BTEC provision) as part of the Shadow Youth Team when required.
- Arrange guest speakers, trips and visits, work experience opportunities and value-added experiences.
- To explore growth opportunities related to the project area and take an active lead on
- arranging student/player recruitment events such as tournaments, school visits and trials.
- To support the recruitment strategy to attract new and aspiring players/students to the Shadow Youth Team and player development pathways.
- To line manage a team of football development coaches, casual staff and apprentices delivering on football development projects.
- To liaise with the Sport Development Manager and proactively promote the Football/Sports Development initiatives and carry out all meaningful tasks, when asked to do, by the Director of FSE.
- To undertake appropriate administrative duties in relation to the programme, to ensure the smooth running of the project e.g., maintain accurate attendance registers, organise fixtures, transport, facilities and basic finance, etc.
- To work in partnership with BFCitC, Burnley FC Academy and Burnley Football Club departments on community initiatives as identified by the Director of FSE, CEO of BFCitC and the Board of Trustees.
- To monitor and evaluate football development projects & have an input into the future design of programme delivery.
- Identify talented individuals involved in the projects and refer those individuals to appropriate destinations.
- To be able to work flexible hours where the role of the job requires.
- To work towards agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

- Work alongside other team members to support in other areas of the organisation as and when required to promote best practice.
- Supervise and support any matchday activities delivered by BFCitC and, or Burnley FC.
- To understand and implement the Charity’s Safeguarding policy, procedures, and best practice guidelines in your role. To use this understanding to ensure safe working practices, appropriate reporting of concerns and contribute positively to a safe environment.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- UEFA B Licence/FA Level 3 Coaching Football
- FA Emergency Aid
- FA Safeguarding
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Experience of managing and mentoring staff, setting KPI’s and monitoring performance
- Experience of building relationships and working collaboratively with a range of key partners/stakeholders
- Experience of coaching a wide variety of community football initiatives
- Experience of managing and developing football education programmes and high-level player pathways across several age groups
- Experience of monitoring, evaluating and reporting on projects
- Knowledge of good practice within coaching and football education
- Full clean driving license with access to own transport
