Job Title: Youth Engagement Officer

Location: Turf Moor (Burnley), Leisure Box (Brierfield) and other locations as necessary
Contract Type: Fixed Term until 30th July 2027
Working Pattern: 35 hours per week (Mon-Fri)
Closing Date: 20th October 2025
Salary: £23,000 - £24,000 per annum
The Role
To deliver on our busy and diverse Youth Engagement programme across the Burnley, Pendle and East Lancashire area. In this role you will use the influence of sport to deliver positive change in the lives of under- represented or vulnerable groups and individuals within the local community.
Roles and Responsibilities
- To engage, inspire and empower young people to reach their full potential.
- To deliver high-quality sessions that engage, enthuse and progress young people.
- To deliver on the successful portfolio programmes in the Welfare and Inclusion department, including Premier League Kicks, Limitless Clarets, Youth Board and the Detached Youth Work offer.
- To support the development and delivery of high-quality, impactful sport and youth engagement sessions in areas of high need across Burnley and Pendle and the wider East Lancashire area.
- Work with individuals and/or groups from a range of diverse backgrounds.
- Support staff upskilling events.
- Target areas of greatest need, working with the Youth Engagement Coordinator and Youth Engagement Manager to identify and respond to the need.
- To represent Burnley FC in the Community on multi-agency meetings and panels.
- Organise and fulfil a number of fixtures and competitions, both locally and regionally to ensure Burnley FC in the Community are represented at Premier League events.
- Support the Youth Engagement Manager in completing Premier League reports ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Plan, organise and deliver a range of lifestyle workshops for project participants, covering a range of issues locally, regionally and nationally.
- To support the Youth Engagement team with staffing responsibilities for casual staff.
- Promote all projects in schools and in community settings across Burnley, Pendle and East Lancashire to ensure that projects achieve their Key Performance Indictors (KPI’s).
- Consider equality, diversity and inclusion in all activities linked to projects with particular focus around female engagement, LGBTQ+ young people, SEND and ethnic diverse communities.
- Lead a range of social action activities of all programmes, ensuring participants are provided with an opportunity to support their local community.
- Support the Youth Engagement Manager to ensure all activities are correctly monitored with the appropriate risk assessments, safeguarding and health and safety procedures in place.
- To lead on data collection, ensuring Salesforce and other reporting platforms are consistently up to date.
- Promote Burnley FC in the Community in community settings across Burnley, Pendle and East Lancashire to ensure a diverse range of participants attend programmes, and the projects achieve their Key Performance Indicators.
- To liaise with the marketing department to ensure programmes are promoted accordingly through varied methodologies.
- Consider equality, diversity and inclusion in all activities linked to Social Inclusion and programmes with a particular focus around female participation, LGBTQ young people, disability, and engaging with ethnically diverse communities.
- Actively promote safeguarding within all programmes and have a clear understanding of the principles of safeguarding.
- Ensure all programmes and activities are correctly monitored with the appropriate risk assessments, safeguarding and health and safety procedures put in place.
- To work closely with senior management and other Managers and Co-ordinators in the department to seek new opportunities for programmes and offers.
- To understand and implement the Charity’s Safeguarding policy, procedures, and best practice guidelines in your role. To use this understanding to ensure safe working practices, appropriate reporting of concerns and contribute positively to a safe environment.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Youth Work Level 1 or 2.
- Level 2 multi-sport qualification(s).
- Experience of coaching or working with young people.
- SEND experience or a good knowledge of impairments and special educational needs.
- Experience of working with young people who display challenging behaviour.
- An understanding and passion for improving opportunities for disadvantaged people and under- represented groups or individuals in our communities.
- An understanding of safeguarding procedures.
- Understanding of Burnley, Pendle and the surrounding geographical areas.
- Understanding of local population need and the inequalities that exist.
- Experience of working and delivering in a sports/community setting.
- Proven track record of working with adults or children and young people.
- Effective communicator with the ability to build and sustain positive relationships with local stakeholders.
- Ability to monitor, evaluate and assess project performance.
- Time management skills to be able to plan and regulate workload including the ability to prioritise demands and thrive under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent IT skills, including intermediate abilities in all MS Office programmes.
- Access to transport for work purposes and to travel to locations throughout the local area.
- Ability to work within a team and foster good working relationships.
