About the Role:
The Mental Wellbeing Worker (MWW) is responsible for delivering targeted mental wellbeing support to young people within secondary schools across Burnley and Pendle through Burnley FC in the Community's Schools' Mental Wellbeing Project. The role aims to improve emotional wellbeing, resilience, and mental health outcomes through the delivery of high-quality 1:1 interventions, group work, psychoeducational support, and whole-school mental wellbeing initiatives.
Working collaboratively with school staff, families, healthcare professionals, and external agencies, the postholder will support young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. The Mental Wellbeing Worker will promote mentally healthy school environments, contribute to early intervention and prevention strategies, and ensure all support is delivered safely, effectively, and in line with safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional practice standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Delivery
Deliver high-quality 1:1 interventions and group sessions for young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, emotional dysregulation and wellbeing concerns.
Complete initial assessments, identify presenting needs, and contribute to psychologically informed support plans.
Develop positive therapeutic relationships that empower young people to make informed decisions regarding their wellbeing and support needs.
Assess and manage risk appropriately, ensuring concerns are escalated and managed in accordance with safeguarding procedures.
Manage an individual caseload effectively, maintaining high standards of organisation, prioritisation, and record keeping.
Signpost and refer young people to specialist services and external agencies where required, working within the limits of competence and professional practice.
Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
Work collaboratively with school pastoral teams, families, healthcare professionals, and community organisations to ensure coordinated support for young people.
Contribute to multi-agency meetings and discussions, providing updates on engagement, wellbeing outcomes, and support plans.
Build positive working relationships with school staff and key stakeholders to strengthen programme impact and accessibility.
Contribute to peer supervision and reflective practice activities, helping to maintain high standards of service delivery.
Mental Wellbeing Promotion
Advocate for positive mental wellbeing within schools and the wider community.
Deliver awareness raising activities, workshops and engagement opportunities that promote mental health literacy among students, staff and families.
Challenge stigma and help remove barriers that may prevent young people from accessing support.
Support schools in developing and maintaining a mentally healthy environment for all students.
Performance, Monitoring & Reporting
Maintain accurate case notes, attendance records, assessments, referrals and outcomes using Salesforce, CPOMS and other organisational systems.
Monitor progress against project outcomes and key performance indicators.
Contribute to service evaluation through the collection, analysis and reporting of outcome data and case studies.
Produce reports and evidence required by funders, schools and organisational stakeholders.
Ensure all record keeping complies with information governance, safeguarding and confidentiality requirements.
General
To understand and implement the Charity’s Safeguarding policy, procedures, and best practice guidelines in your role. To use this understanding to ensure safe working practices, appropriate reporting of concerns and contribute positively to a safe environment.
To be able to work flexible hours where the role of the job requires. You may be required to work the occasional match day which may fall on a weekend or evening.

About You:
To be successful within this role, you will have:
Degree in Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health, or a related discipline.
Experience of supporting young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
Experience of delivering both one-to-one and group-based interventions.
Experience of managing competing priorities and maintaining an individual caseload effectively.
Experience of maintaining accurate case records and handling confidential information in accordance with professional standards.
Experience of assessing, managing, and escalating risk where appropriate.
Experience of monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on project or service performance.
Experience of working collaboratively with schools, external agencies, and partner organisations.
Knowledge of low-intensity, evidence-based mental health interventions and their application within secondary school settings.
Sound understanding of child and adolescent mental health and wellbeing.
Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, policy, and best practice relating to children and vulnerable young people.
Understanding of confidentiality, information sharing protocols, and professional boundaries.
Knowledge of equality, diversity, inclusion, and anti-discriminatory practice.
Manages caseloads, interventions, referrals and records effectively, ensuring timely and high-quality support for young people.
Promotes positive mental wellbeing, challenges stigma and encourages engagement from students, families and school staff.
Builds effective relationships with schools, families and partner agencies to coordinate support and improve outcomes.
Engages in supervision, reflective practice and continuous learning to improve professional knowledge and service delivery.
Places young people's needs at the centre of support, delivering responsive, person-centred interventions and positive experiences.
